3 Steps to the Perfect Herbal Infusion - How to Brew Herbal Tea

This is definitely one of the most frequently asked questions that people ask! How do I brew this"?

Loose leaf can be a little intimidating if you have never jumped into this camp before, but I have 3 steps here to help you see that brewing an herbal infusion with loose leaf tea is actually super simple!

In this post we are going to focus on an Herbal Infusion. When we talk about different teas like Green, Black, Oolong, and White <- Those teas need to be brewed for a shorter amount of time to avoid getting bitter. BUT WITH HERBAL TEAS, you can brew for a long time to help pull those amazing properties out of the herbs and into the water. I recommend at least 15 minutes and up to 4 hours… but not spoilers here, lets get to the STEPS!

STEP 1:

You need about 1 teaspoon of loose leaf tea per 8oz of water (as a general rule) but with herbal teas I sometimes add a bit more ;)

I love to use Mason Jars to brew my herbal infusions. They are glass (don’t use plastic), inexpensive, heavy duty, and definitely able to hold boiling water without breaking! And also I can have several different herbal infusions going in a small space.

Just place the necessary amount of tea at the bottom of your jar. I like to use Quart (32 oz) mason jars, so it basically 4 teaspoons of tea… my friends and family will tell you that I definitely toss a bit more in when I get a little excited or carried away ;) And when it comes to tea…ya, I get a bit excited and carried away quite a bit! But that is one of the beauties of HERBAL tea, it wont get bitter (like black or green) if you add too much, it will just be strong!

STEP 2:

Fill your jar with boiling water and pop a lid on it!

The longer you can let the herbs infuse with the water, the better! … within reason! I suggest at least 15 minutes and up to 4 hours. This gives the leaves a change to infuse with the water so you get all the nutrients and properties when you strain the leaves off.

I like to get my herbal infusions all going in the morning after I make my morning tea. I usually get at least 2 HERBAL TEAS going so I can come back to blends like Brain Boost if I need an afternoon pick-me-up or even Sleep Ease if I am having anxiety and need to calm down. I particularly love Soothing Lemon Wellness and Hibiscus Twist cause they can be hot or iced! Pour your herbal infusion over ice for a very refreshing treat!

During cold and flu season, I usually get Immune Support, Throat Soothe, and Breathe Deep going because it seems that someone in my house needs at least 1 of those throughout the day!

STEP 3:

After your herbal infusion has had its time to hang out with the water, get your strainers ready and its tea time!!

Pour your infusion through a strainer! This is the ForLife folding handle strainer which I love to use, but you can use any type of strainer and definitely dont have to have all the expensive gadgets. Here is a link to my favorite accessories.

Now the fun doesn’t stop there!!!

You can reuse those same tea leaves to fill with more boiling water and have even more tea!

Steps:

  1. Place 1 teaspoon of loose leaf tea per 8oz of water in the bottom of your jar

  2. Fill your jar with boiling water and let it set 15 minutes to 4 hours
